The Camel (al-Jamal; الجمل) Virgin Olive Oil Palestinian Soap
For over 180 years, the Al-Shakaa Soap Factory in the heart of Nablus has been crafting traditional Nabulsi soap, a symbol of resilience and heritage. Adorned with the iconic camel imprint—an homage to the camel caravans that once transported qilw soda ash—this soap is steeped in history and tradition.
Handmade with care, the soap is produced using time-honoured methods. Natural ingredients are cooked over a fire for 5-6 days before being poured onto the ground (covered in sheets) and cut into perfectly imperfect squares. The bars of soap are then stacked in towers and left to dry for 40 days before each one is individually wrapped in paper. Every bar reflects the enduring legacy of a family craft passed down through generations.
The Al-Shakaa factory isn’t just a site of craftsmanship—it’s a cornerstone of Palestinian history. It served as a meeting place during the 1936 Palestinian Revolution, where the foundations of resistance were laid, and the call for a general strike united cities across Palestine.
By choosing Al-Shakaa Nabulsi Soap, you’re supporting a legacy of artisanal craftsmanship and celebrating the spirit of a community that stands steadfast in the face of adversity. Bring a piece of this rich heritage into your home and experience the timeless art of Nabulsi soap making.

Love and Care: Olive oil soap only gets better with age. Store your bars in a dry place, and over time, they’ll develop a richer olive-tan colour, become denser, and produce a luxurious, creamy lather. The natural scent will also mellow, creating a gentler aroma. For faster aging, place your soap in a sunny window and watch as it transforms into an even more refined bar of artisanal care.
